Prayer card template

Prayer card templates sized at 2.5 × 4.25 inches that you can personalize and print on card stock at home. Add a photo and a prayer, and print a full set tonight.

What goes on the front and back

The front is mostly photo, with their name and years below it. The back has a prayer or short verse, then their full name and dates. Some families add the date of the service or a line such as “Rest in peace” under the prayer.

Printing at home: paper, settings, 6 per sheet

Use 80–110 lb card stock. The home-printing PDF puts six cards on each US Letter sheet, with cut marks. (Eight would need printing right to the paper edge, which home printers can’t do.) Print the fronts, put the stack back in the tray, and print the backs, then cut along the marks with a paper trimmer. Print one test sheet first to make sure the backs line up with the fronts.

An Irish blessing

46 words

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Psalm 23:1–4 (King James Version)

71 words

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13, King James Version)

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Questions families ask

How many prayer cards should I print?

About one per guest, plus extras for family who couldn't come. Six cards fit on each sheet, so 100 cards is 17 sheets.

Can I use my own prayer or a poem?

Yes. Type any text on the back. Keep it to about 60 words so it stays readable at this size.

Do I need to laminate them?

No. Many families leave them as printed card stock. Self-seal laminating pouches in the same size are sold at office stores if you want them to last.
